In a stern move, the Election Commission on Monday has restricted the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to campaign for the next 24 hours.
The ban will come into effect from 8 PM on Monday.
The order has come in light of the Cooch Behar violence incident alleging TMC supremo for instigating the mob to gherao CAPF during the fourth phase of polling.
In its order, the EC noted that Mamata Banerjee made "highly insinuating and provocative remark laden with the serious potential of the breakdown of law and order and thereby adversely affecting the election process".
The EC has denounced the statements of Mamata Banerjee and has advised her to refrain herself from using such statements while addressing public meeting while election code of conduct is in force.
The fourth phase of polling has wrapped up in West Bengal and during it, an incident of violence erupted at a polling booth in Cooch Behar. The incident has caught the attention of both BJP and TMC, and its leaders are alleging each other for disturbing circumstances. TMC alleged that Central forces opened fire twice at polling booths, later claiming to disperse the mob, however, four casualties happened that day.
The fifth and sixth round of election is scheduled for April 17 and April 22 respectively and the counting will take place on May 2.
