During its press conference, the Election Commission of India has recommended that social media and online platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Google can stream political advertisements that have been pre-approved by the commission. It has also demanded for the creation of mechanisms that will enable the social networking sites to rapidly take-down objectionable political content. The Election Commission is also stressing over greater transparency to reveal who is precisely paying for online political advertisements. It has also made clear that 48 hours before polling dates, all paid political content must be put to an end.

Meanwhile, after its submission of the panel report to the ECI on January 10th, three of the largest internet platforms in India namely Facebook, Google, and Twitter, unilaterally announced a series of election transparency-related measures in India. Verification of political advertisers’ credentials and the creation of publicly accessible databases to disclose campaign spending on their platforms are among the measures.
It will be India's first elections after the world truly and actively took to the social media to boost the process of gathering votes intheir favour.
