The Korean show created history by becoming the first ever non-English show in history to win a Primetime Emmy award. All eyes were on Squid Games after it swept away accolades at the Emmy Awards night.
Its director Hwang Dong-Hyuk won the recognition as Best Director, while Lee Jung-Jae won an Emmy for his lead role in the show.
After accepting the award, Hwang in his acceptance speech said he hoped "this Emmy won't be his last," CNN reported. "On to season two," he told the audience.
Among other recognition for the Korean show, Lee You-mi won the Guest Actress award for the show. Besides, winning awards for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Stunt Performance, and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program.
'Squid Game', became the most-watched show of all time on Netflix following its September 2021 debut, and also became the first non-English-language show to be nominated in the main drama category.
The historic and never to forget Emmy for the Korean show got 14 nominations this year as per the American media. Squid Game tells the story of cash-strapped individuals competing in children`s games for a chance to win a large sum of money but for the losers, death is the only option.
Squid Games will also be marking its return as hinted by the makers, Earlier this year, the makers announced the second season of the Korean thriller show. Posting a note by Squid Game`s writer, director, producer, and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, Netflix shared the news with the fans.
