Rajya Sabha Elections 2022: After the assembly elections held in five states, elections will be held on 13 seats of Rajya Sabha today.
These 13 seats are from six states, including Punjab (5 seats), Kerala (3 seats), Assam (two seats) and one each from Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Tripura.
Voting and counting will be completed today. As of now, out of 245 Rajya Sabha seats, 97 are occupied by the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).
The upper house of the Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. After a bill is introduced in the Lok Sabha, the bill must be passed in the Rajya Sabha as well. Unless a bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha, it cannot become law.
Rajya Sabha A total of 258 members are elected in Rajya Sabha. Out of this, 12 members can be nominated by the President.

The term of one-third of the members expires every two years. After which elections are held for their seats.
However, the process of the Rajya Sabha election is different from Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections as the term of its member are 6 years.
How voting to be done
The common man votes in the Lok Sabha elections, whereas the common man cannot vin for the Rajya Sabha elections. For this, only the representatives of the people elected by the people i.e. MLAs take part in this election.
The most important thing to become an MP is that the person should be an Indian citizen as well as his age should also be 30 years.
According to the Article 102 provision of the Constitution, candidates, bankrupt and certain other categories of persons have been declared unfit to become members of the Rajya Sabha.
This is how it is counted
In these elections, victory is based on the number of MLAs of each state. Talking in simple language, like there are 200 MLAs in Rajasthan and if Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on 9 seats here, then by adding one to the number of members, 200 is divided by 10, after that then one is added to it. That is, a total of 21 seats are required to win.
In the Rajya Sabha elections, all the MLAs vote on a priority basis. The director has to tell who is his first choice among the candidates, followed by the second and then the third choice.
