A blast occurred on Heritage Street in Amritsar, Punjab late on Saturday, around 12 o'clock. The explosion shattered the windows of Saragarhi parking, and the broken glass scattered all around. The police investigation revealed that it was an accident, and the forensic team is currently investigating the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, there was a foul smell of potassium at the time of the accident, and a powdery substance was found near the window. However, the police have not commented on this yet. The Central ACP, Surinder Singh, said that the incident is not terrorist-related, but the reason is still unclear.
The police officials say that the incident was not a blast, as there were no signs of an explosion. They believe that the glass shattered due to the cold weather outside and the humidity inside the parking lot. The forensic team has been asked to investigate the breaking of the glass and excessive noise.
The incident took place in front of Saragarhi Sarai on Heritage Street, near Golden Temple, just outside the parking lot. The police reached the spot within a few minutes and started the investigation. People were urged to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities.
DCP Parminder Singh Bhandal addressed the media and said, "Last night, there was an explosion in this parking lot that caused the glasses to break. The police team arrived immediately, and we saw glass pieces scattered all over. At that moment, it seemed like the glasses broke due to overheating and warmth from inside. However, in the morning, when the team came to investigate again, they found more small glass pieces. The forensic team was then called upon, and a special team from Mohali was brought in to look into the matter and determine the cause of the incident. Fortunately, no serious mishap occurred, and only one person standing close to the incident suffered a minor scratch."
A special team arrived from Mohali, led by Counter Intelligence IG Nirlabh Kishore, to further investigate the incident and determine the reason behind it. The CCTV footage of the blast has come to the fore, clearly showing the blast, sparks, and smoke. Further investigation will reveal the cause of the incident. Meanwhile, people are urged to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities.
