Social media apps Facebook and Instagram went down for many users around the world on May 15. Hundreds of users on online outage tracking website, DownDetector, reported issues with these apps. Most commonly, users were left unable to refresh their feed.
Data from DownDetector showed that users started reporting the outage around 4 am. Most users reported difficulties at 07.30 in the morning. However, after this, the outage reports reduced.
Facebook and Instagram have not yet issued any official statement related to the outage. Therefore, the reason for this outage remains unclear. There is no information about how much time it will take to recover.
Earlier incident of Meta outage;
Earlier, on the night of March 5, users on both the platforms of Meta Company faced difficulty in login and refreshing the feed. On Facebook, users' accounts were automatically logged out, while on Instagram, users were unable to refresh new feeds.
On October 4, 2021, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp platforms were closed all over the world for about 6 hours. Due to this, billions of users had to face problems. The effect of this outage was also visible on Facebook shares in the American market. The company's shares had fallen by 6%.
On July 3, 2019, at 8 pm, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram were down in many countries including India and America. After being down for about 9 and a half hours, it was fixed on July 4, 2019.
