With India engulfed in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 fever, multiple videos of prominent leaders go viral on social media. With the advent of AI, multiple fake videos also go viral with misleading claims. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah faced a similar kind of incident when a video went viral on X in which he was seen promising that the BJP would abolish caste-based reservations for OBCs & SC/STs. Amit Shah's reservation video was shared by multiple pro-Congress handles on X and it cautioned the people that the BJP will abolish reservations if it wins the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
However, Amit Shah's reservation video turned out to be fake and it was shared by Telangana Congress on X. BJP IT Cell Head Amit Malviya took to his X handle and shared the snip of Telangana Congress peddling fake news and spreading Amit Shah's fake video on social media to induce fear among voters.
Malviya wrote, "@INCTelangana is spreading an edited video, which is completely fake and has the potential to cause large scale violence. Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about removing the unconstitutional reservation given to Muslims, on the basis of religion, after reducing share of SCs/STs and OBCs. This fake video has been posted by several Congress spokespersons, including likes of
@asmatasleem13 and others. They must be prepared for legal consequences."
What is the truth behind the video?
The edited video which is going viral on X indeed belongs to Amit Shah but he never promised to abolish reservations for OBCs and SC/STs. In the original video, Amit Shah talked about scraping the 'unconstitutional reservation of Muslims if voted to power in Telangana.'
Amit Shah in the original video said, "If the BJP government is formed, we will scrap the unconstitutional Muslim reservation. The SC, ST and OBC communities of Telangana deserve this opportunity and they will be awarded the same by ending the Muslim reservation."
Shah made these remarks while addressing the rally at Chevella near Hyderabad. The Union Home Minister slammed religion-based reservations, calling them 'unconstitutional'. He had vowed to end the reservations for Muslims in Telangana if the BJP formed the government in the state.
Telangana CM Revnath Reddy summoned by Delhi Police
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy has been summoned by Delhi police on May 1 after Telangana Congress shared a doctored video of Amit Shah speaking on abolishing caste quota. He has been asked to appear with his mobile phone allegedly used for posting the video on X (formerly Twitter).
