The rape & murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College & Hospital has reignited the women's safety debate. In India, hospital services are disrupted with OPDs not working including in the AIIMS. In fact, after a mob attack on RG Kar Medical College & hospital when doctors & students were protesting against the heinous crime, IMA called for a nationwide strike for 24 hours. Thereafter, the Supreme Court of India took suo moto cognizance even though the matter was already being heard in the Calcutta High Court. The Supreme Court also pulled up the West Bengal government and Kolkata Police over the mob attack. In the meanwhile, a video is going viral on social media with the claims that the victim filmed a selfie video during her last moments.

Yes! you heard it right. Multiple social media handles are sharing a video of a woman with the claims that it belongs to the Doctor who was raped & murdered in Kolkata Hospital. Below is a snip of some viral claims.

It is said that the deceased Doctor filmed herself in her final moment and gave a message to her mother seeking justice. However, the viral video claiming to be of Kolkata rape & murder victim is misleading and fake.

The face of the woman in the video does not match the Kolkata doctor. Also, neither the CBI nor the Kolkata Police ever mentioned that the victim filmed a video of herself addressing her mother. Although the source of the viral video is not known, it is clear that the video is misleading and not related to the RG Kar hospital case.

Furthermore, the doctor’s body was discovered in a brutal condition inside the hospital premises. Given the severity of her injuries and the circumstances of her death, it is highly unlikely that the victim could have recorded herself during or after the attack.
