Bangladesh is in turmoil ever since Sheikh Hasina resigned as the country's PM and fled to India from a military aircraft. Hundreds of protestors on Monday stormed inside Bangladesh PM's official residence and ransacked the entire building in the name of student protest. Protestors not only stormed inside Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina's official residence but also looted and feasted upon food that was left in the bungalow. The protestors proudly flaunted items that they stole in front of the camera. The stolen items from the Bangladesh PM's official residence turned out to be a symbol of victory for the protestors. Meanwhile, there were multiple reports surfaced that claimed that hardline mobs disguised themselves as part of students' protest and started attacking Hindus in Bangladesh. Not only this. but numerous videos of a mob burning down a house went viral with the claims that the bungalow belonged to Bangladesh's Hindu Cricketer Litton Das.
A Bangladeshi journalist named Tamjidul Hoque of The Daily Star shared a snip of an X page that claimed, "Bangladeshi Hindu Cricketer Liton Das house has been set on fire (SIC)".
Now, the question arises whether Litton Das House was actually set on fire by the mob or not. As per Tamjidul Hoque, Litton Das house fire viral video is misleading. The journalist revealed that the house that was burnt by the mob belonged to former Bangladesh cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. Houque wrote, "6k likes on a blatant lie within 30 minutes (that's mashrafee's house)....we have a long way to go in order to fight local and international fear mongers trying to create fear and divide in our country."
True Scoop tried to dig more about Mashrafe Mortaza's house, and it found that his bungalow in Narail, in the southwestern part of the country was set on fire by the protesters amid the chaos. For the unversed, the former Bangladesh skipper Mortaza is an MP with the ruling Awami League party. The former cricketer had to face the ire of the mob for his silence on the alleged "mass arrests of students" in Bangladesh by the Sheikh Hasina government.
Therefore, it can be said that the claims that Litton Das' house was burnt are misleading and fake.
