February 16, 2024, marked the fourth day of the farmers' movement, United Kisan Morcha and Labor Union have called Gramin Bharat Bandh. Meanwhile, many photos and videos related to the farmers' protest are surfacing on social media, with most making outrageous claims about the movement. One such video went viral on social media which shows the protesting farmers being served with ‘free liquor’. But is the video real, or even from the protest that is happening right now? Here is the truth:
It can be seen in the video that some people are standing around a vehicle, while the person sitting in the vehicle is giving liquor to the people one by one. One user with the username “Baba Banaras™” posted the video with caption: “Morning tea distribution by so-called farmer leaders to poor farmers at Sambhu border. Haters will say this is liquor”, which found more than 4.2k likes (at the time of writing).
Another user posted the same video with the caption “Are these Poor Farmers?? Everybody needs alcohol so they can have fun!!!” with the same intonation. However, the video is not from this protest. Matter of fact, the video is not from the farmer’s protest at all.
Is the video real?
No. This video was not of the farmers' movement but of the nationwide lockdown imposed during Corona. Therefore. the claim made with the viral video that liquor is being distributed to farmers during the ongoing farmers' movement is completely wrong and misleading.
The video was originally posted on a facebook page named The Trending India. The video was uploaded on 11 April 2020. However, the first farmers' protest started from 24-25 September 2020. Hence the videos claiming that farmers were being distributed ‘free liquor’ is fake.
