Fake CBI officer dupes man of Rs 90 lakh with fake income tax job offer in Jalandhar; 5 people arrested

A Punjabi typist identified as Rajan Sethi was duped by a fake CBI officer, who made fake promises of providing deputy Commissioner job to his daughter in the Income Tax Department in Jalandhar, Punjab. The victim has lost all his savings in attempt to make his daughter a Deputy Commissioner.

The main accused of this case is identified as Parminder Singh. He had introduced himself as Additional Director of CBI and had said that PM Office Secretary Sudhir Sharma has made him his son. Parminder showed him his CBI ID card and said that he is an Additional Director in CBI.

Parminder Singh claimed that, he would easily get a job for Rajan’s daughter. He kept scamming Sethi for almost about three years. Victim Rajan Sethi said that he had taken a loan of 18 lakhs by mortgaging his wife's jewelry. He had deposited more than 60 lakhs in the account. He even took a loan on his wife's pension.

Sethi revealed that whenever he called Parminder, he would say he was busy in an encounter or in a meeting with the CP. He promised that the victim’s daughter is soon going to become a deputy commissioner. When they went to her house, the parents said that only the letter is pending. Sethi said that he came to know that the girl who called pretending to be Bhavna was Bhupinder Kaur and she was Parminder's sister. Parminder used to say that he was going to become a director soon.

Parminder Singh had transferred more than 60 lakh rupees to his father's account. During the investigation, when the police called Parminder and his father, they denied the allegations. Parminder told the police that he never introduced himself as a CBI officer. When Sethi presented the statement of the money transferred to the account, the accused were left with no answer.

After investigation, on Tuesday, the police have registered a case under sections 419, 420 and 120B of the IPC against Nangal Shama resident Parminder Singh and his family. The police have taken the accused in the custody and is interrogating him.
