As rains continue, a tragic incident took place on Wednesday morning, when the roof of a home in Kotkapura town, Faridkot district, fell, killing three family members, including a 7-month pregnant woman, her husband, and their 5-year-old son. The woman's, her husband's, and her son's remains were removed by the police with the assistance of the townspeople, and a 15-year-old girl was admitted to the Kotkapura public hospital for treatment.
A 39-year-old man named Gurpreet Singh, his expecting wife Karamjit Kaur, and their son Gavi have all been identified as the deceased. Another girl in the room, Inderjit Kaur, was also injured but she was rescued. Ram Rakha Singh, the deceased Gurpreet Singh's father, claimed that the room had members of his son's family and Inderjit Kaur, a local girl. At roughly 3.30 am, the roof of the house suddenly collapsed, trapping the family beneath the debris. He said that he was sleeping in nearby room.
“At around 3:30 am in the morning, the roof of the house collapsed. I raised an alarm after hearing the sound of the roof falling. Hearing the noise, the people around reached the spot and informed the police about the incident,” said Ram Rakha Singh.
Stating the tragic accident, Faridkot Depury Commissioner Vineet Kumar said, “The wall of the house had been damaged due to rainwater and subsequently it may have led to the roof collapse. The family will be given an ex-gratia grant of Rs 4 lakh each”.
