"The actor's family will decide when will last rites be performed. The last rites will most likely be performed today," said Bengaluru CP Kamal Pant at Kanteerava Stadium.
Earlier, media reports claimed that Puneeth's last rites will be performed on Sunday, after the return of his eldest daughter Vanditha from the United States.
Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai expressed condolences for the death of Karnataka's "most loved superstar" and declared that state honours would be bestowed upon the actor during his funeral.

Following his death, a 30-year-old man from Karnataka's Chamrajnagar district died of cardiac arrest while another died after a major heart attack in Shindolli village, Belagavi.
One admirer of the actor is said to have committed suicide, and another is said to have crushed his palm in rage in Karnataka.
