The Lok Sabha Elections concluded on 1st June 2024. Punjab witnessed the voting for 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab and the sole seat of Chandigarh today. The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 results will be announced on 4th June. Everyone is eagerly waiting to witness who wins from each constituency; however, CM Mann is keeping his eye on the most significant seat i.e. Faridkot. AAP’s victory from Faridkot is crucial for Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. This year Faridkot saw a total voting percentage of 60.78% which is less than the last assembly elections. In 2019, Faridkot saw a total of 63.23 voters turnout.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann is banking on Faridkot’s seat as his very close friend Karamjit Anmol is contesting for elections. Karamjit Anmol Singh is a famous Punjabi actor, singer and comedian. Despite having other suitable candidates who were close to CM Mann, he placed his bets on Karamjit Anmol. Winning the Faridkot seat is quite significant for Aam Aadmi Party. Congress considered Amarjit Kaur Sahoke to be a suitable candidate for the Lok Sabha Elections. Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) made the fight more interesting by announcing famous singer Hans Raj Hans as its candidate. Talking about Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the party has chosen Rajwinder Singh to contest the upcoming assembly elections. BSP will not be announcing any nominations from this seat. For the unversed, it was in 1997 that the BJP formed an alliance with SAD and till 2019 they contested elections together. Post 2019, this was the first time that BJP and SAD contested solo in an assembly election.
It is expected that the Faridkot seat will witness a tough fight between Sarabjit Singh Khalsa’s Independent Party and the Aam Aadmi Party during assembly elections. However, the results might take Punjab locals by surprise. Sarabjit Singh Khalsa is the son of Beant Singh, infamous for assassinating the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He is a hardline and a firm Khalistan supporter. There are chances that instead of major political parties, he will become victorious in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
Talking about previous victories, the city has witnessed a candidate win twice. In 2009 Paramjit Kaur Gulshan from SAD, in 2014 Prof. Sadhu Singh from AAP and in 2019 Muhammad Sadiq from Congress were the winners of the Faridkot seat. Faridkot is considered to be a backward area of Punjab. Locals are not very happy with the current MP as he has not put much effort into the development of this city. It is considered as the ‘Heritage City’ of Punjab but still is not considered significant for development.
Faridkot has in total 1688 polling stations. The constituency consists of 834493 males, 744363 females and 81 transgenders making a total of 746286 voters.
