A farmer died during a protest in Tarn Taran’s Khara village due to cardiac arrest. The protest was against the electricity officials visiting the village to check the electricity theft. The farmers first held the team hostage in the village and then staged a protest for the same.
The officers of Power Corporation had gone to take a check on the electricity theft in Khara village in Tarn Taran district of Punjab when the agitated farmers held them hostage and started the protest. ASDO Satpal Singh, JE Puneet Singh and Lineman Harpal Singh of Electricity Corporation Gohalvad went to the village to have a check on the situation. The leaders of the Kisan-Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti started opposing them and held them hostage.
During the protest, the resident of the village, Baljeet Singh, also participating in the protest, suffered a cardiac arrest and died. After the death of the fellow farmer, the atmosphere there gets tensed. XEN Harkrishna Singh and other officials of Electricity Corporation reached the spot to evaluate the situation.

The Sangharsh Samiti demanded compensation of Rs. 5 Lakh for the family of the deceased.
The Samiti said that they will continue the protest till the acceptance of the demand. The DC assured the farmers of the compensation to the family of the deceased. After the demand was accepted, the farmers ended the strike. XEN Harkrishna Singh said that a file is being prepared regarding the compensation to the deceased’s family and will be sent to the state government.
