Farmers' Protest on Friday intensified yet again after the protestors started to march towards Delhi. Haryana Government on the other hand which was expected to give way to farmers did not allow them to march towards Delhi. As a result, a major face-off erupted. While the farmers broke the barricade and uprooted the fences, the Police forces fired tear gas at them. In the face off, at least 6 farmers got injured. At the Shambhu border, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced, "We have called off 'Jattha' and not the march (to Delhi). 6 farmers have been injured..."
About two and a half hours after the Delhi march started, farmers were retreating from the Shambhu border. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that many of our leaders have been injured. We are calling the group back. A decision on the Delhi march will be taken later.
The farmers, who have been camping on the Punjab-Haryana border for the last 9 months. The farmer organizations sent a group of 101 farmers to Delhi at 1 pm. After this, the farmers uprooted the barricades and barbed wires.
How security was beefed up by the Haryana Government?
At the Khanauri border, 13 companies of police, one company each of CRPF and BSF have been deployed. A total of more than 1500 employees are deployed. 3 JCBs, water cannon vehicles, 3 Vajra vehicles, 20 roadway buses and 7 police buses have been parked. Three-level barricading has been done at 3 places in an area of 30 km.
At the Shambhu Border - There are 3 layers of barricading. Haryana Police has built a cement wall. Police and paramilitary forces are deployed. About 1 thousand jawans of police and paramilitary forces are deployed under the bridge. Vajra vehicles and ambulances are also present.
