In light of the recent failed talks at Chandigarh, and the violent chaos that ensued at the Shambhu border, Farmers announced that they will be blocking several train by sitting in protest on the train tracks. Farmers from across the state are marching towards Delhi to get their demands accepted by the government, which include MSP among others. Yesterday, BKU leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan announced that BKU will block the tracks in various regions of Punjab in solidarity with the farmers.
In the same light, it was announced yesterday that another meeting between the Central Government will be held today. Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Arjun Munda, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai will meet the farmer leaders at 5 pm over their various demands, including a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price for crops. This will be the third meeting between the farmers and the centre as the previous 2 rounds of dialogue on Feb 8 and 12 remained “inconclusive”.
BKU (Ugrahan) announced yesterday to Hold Rail Roko in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib and Moga from 12 Noon to 4 PM. Along with this, BKU (Ugrahan) members took control of toll plazas on the Shahkot-Moga route, protesting Haryana Police’s action against the farmers. Vehicles were seen moving without paying toll fee as farmers took over the Azizpur Toll plaza on Patiala highway in Zirakpur as well.
It is also being reported that nearly 10 protest sites have been finalised for the rail roko protest in which the BKU Ugrahan and BKU Dakaunda (Dhaner faction) will participate jointly, and more locations are likely to be added by evening.
