Farmers Protest on Saturday entered Day 5 with peasants adamant of marching to Delhi. As no consensus between the farmers union leader and the Centre was reached during the third round of meetings, farmers of Punjab continued to stand at the Shambhu border, insisting on going to Delhi. On Friday, Punjab and many other states witnessed the Bharat Bandh in solidarity of the marching farmers. Not only this, an elderly farmer who was part of the protest died due to a heart attack on Friday. While Bharat Bandh has been lifted, below is what day 5 of farmers protest will bring-
1) Tractor March
As per reports, Chaduni Group will take out a tractor march in all the tehsils of Haryana in support of the farmers protesting at the Shambhu border. Farmers have been given time to protest at 11 am. Farmers have started preparations for this. Gurnam Singh Chaduni said that there is a call to the farmers that no farmer should sit in the village with a tractor, take part in this movement, and raise the voices of the farmers. This tractor march will be taken out peacefully.
Notably, the tractor march is taking place at a time when Haryana Chief Minister Khatter has objected to thousands of farmers trying to go Delhi in a tractor. During a press conference, Khatter had said that farmers can go to Delhi but through public transport and not tractor. "We have earlier seen how protesters blockaded the Delhi border and how people were inconvenienced because of the year-long protest. This is not right to create an atmosphere like the farmers are attacking with an army with JCB, tractor, ration for a year and what not. Tractor is not a mode of transport. They can go to Delhi by using public transport -- train, bus. A tractor is for agricultural use. They should sit and talk," said Khatter.
BKU Ugrahan to surround Punjab leaders' house
BKU Ugrahan has announced a ‘sitdown’ around the houses of former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, BJP Punjab President Sunil Jakhar and BJP leader Kewal Singh Dhillon. Punjab President of the organization, Jogendra Singh said that they have come fully in support of the farmers who are agitating for their demands.
The BKU Ugrahan has decided that as long as the meeting is not held with the United Kisan Morcha, houses of three big leaders of the BJP in Punjab, including former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjabi BJP President Sunil Jakhar and BJP's Barnala leader Kewal Singh Dhillon will be surrounded.
All eyes are on the fourth round of meetings between farmers & Centre
The fourth round of meetings between the Central Government and farmers will take place on Sunday, February 17, 2024. Notably, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been mediating between farmers and the Central Government. The farmer unions have laid down multiple demands including a legal guarantee on MSP, exiting from WTO and scrapping any kind of free trade, etc.
