In a major development, four farmer leaders including Sarwan Singh Pandher on Sunday were arrested in Tamil Nadu for trying to burn the Modi Government's effigy. Sarwan Singh Pandher was the face of farmers' protest 2.0 that took place on the Sambhu Border. Sarwan Singh Pandher-led farmers' protest 2.0 under which hundreds of peasants decided to go to the National Capital under the 'Delhi Chalo' march.
As per reports, farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher, Gurmeet Singh Mangat, Manjit Singh Rai, and Harvinder Singh Masania reached Tamil Nadu on Saturday. On Sunday, the Tamil Nadu Police arrested all four farmers in Coimbatore district. The farmers were burning the effigy of the central government.
After the death of Punjab's young farmer Shubhakaran, the farmers were protesting peacefully at Shambhu and Khanauri border of Haryana-Punjab. They are now going to intensify the movement after the arrest of Navdeep Singh. On April 7, on the call of United Kisan Morcha and Kisan-Laborer Morcha, farmers protested against the central government across the country including Haryana and Punjab, and burnt effigies.
In Ambala, farmers took out the 'Arthi Yatra' (dead procession) from the grain market and reached Court Chowk. Effigies of the Prime Minister and Haryana CM were burnt in protest against the government.
The farmers have announced to block the railway track near the Shambhu border indefinitely on April 9, after which the problems of the railways, as well as the common people, seem to be increasing. If farmers sit on the railway tracks, many trains coming from Delhi to Punjab will be affected.
As per farmers, hundreds of peasants in Haryana have been arrested by the police since February 10. Of these, 5 farmer leaders are still in jail.
Ravinder Singh and Amarjeet Singh have been lodged in Jind jail since 13 February, and Anish Khatkar since 19 March. On March 28, Ambala police arrested youth farmer leaders Navdeep Singh Jalbehra and Gurkirat Singh. After 3 days of remand, he is now in Ambala Central Jail.
