Along with tweets, several photos of Khalsa Aid volunteers are being shared on social media sites with people across the globe lauding the efforts of Khalsa Aid in reaching out to those in distress.
Time and again, volunteers of the Khalsa Aid have come forward to help out those in needs. Be it rescue of Kashmiri students back to their valley after the Pulwama attack, or the time when they gave out Eid gifts to over 500 Syrian refugees. Yet again, in the time of need, the volunteers of the UK-based non-profit organisation have come out to assist farmers who are protesting at the Delhi borders.
Continuing with their efforts to bring ease to the farmers, the teams of Khalsa Aid have erected temporary shelter homes at the Singhu border. It's been 15 days since the farmers from Punjab, Haryana, UP, Madhya Pradesh and among other states are up in arms against the Central government and are away from their homes to make sure that the government repeals the controversial agri laws.
While the peasants assembled in large numbers at the outskirts of Delhi are least bothered about the peaceful sleep, Khalsa aid is leaving no stone unturned to provide homely atmosphere to the farmers at the protesting site. Considering the hardships faced by the agitators, especially women and children, Khalsa aid has placed two 300 bed capacity tents for them. Apart from the comfortable mattresses and the blankets, the tents are waterproof to keep the farmers warm amid cold weather.
Besides, photos of food massage machines being brought for farmers are also viral on the social media. Tejinder Pal Singh, a city based Khalsa Aid member who has been at the border from past few days said, “Amid limited supplies and unavailability of proper beds, we thought to create temporary homes for the farmers for their safe stay. For the security of the farmers, CCTV cameras have also been installed inside the tents for round the clock surveillance”.
In-addition special guards have been deployed to ensure safety of the farmers; he said adding that while one tent will accommodate women, in another one men will take their comfortable nap. “In view of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the tents have been sprayed with disinfectants and hand sanitizers have been kept at the entrance to contain the covid spread”, Singh further said.
Divulging more details, Tejinder said that they are available to help farmers 24*7. “They are our annadatas, and it is our responsibility to stand with them. They are not sitting here protesting for their own rights, rather they are here for every citizen of India and ensure they are not cheated by the corporate houses”, he said.
“Our volunteers set up tea and breakfast langar every day to keep the farmers energised. They regularly prepare meals throughout the day. Since women had to struggle there in the beginning, Khalsa aid ordered 50 portable washrooms for their convenience”, he added.
Tejinder further said that, washing machines and warm water taps have also been installed for the safe hygiene of the farmers at the protest site.
Farmers from about 35 farm organizations, mostly from Punjab, are protesting at Delhi borders since November 27 seeking repeal of the three new farm laws enacted by the central government.
