Due to strenuous efforts of the Jalandhar administration the farmers have agreed to meet the Cooperation Minister Mr Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa at Chandigarh on Sunday for resolving the ongoing issue of the cane growers.
The meeting has been arranged after series of negotiations by district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Mr Ghanshyam Thori with the farmers. The meeting will be held at Punjab Bhawan
Chandigarh on Sunday at 12 noon and will be chaired by the Minister accompanied by ACS (Development) Anirudh Tiwari, Cane Commissioner and Director Agriculture.
12 farmers leaders including Mr Balbir Singh Rajewal, Mr Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Mr Manjit Singh Rai, Mr Balwinder Singh Mallinangal, Mr Jangbir Singh Chauhan, Mr Balwinder Singh Raju Aulakh, Mr Sukhpal Singh, Mr Kuldeep Singh Wajidpur, Mr Baldev Singh Sirsa, Mr Kulwant Singh Sandhu, Mr Harinder Singh Lakhowal and Mr Mukesh Chander are expected to take part in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government led by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was firmly committed for well being of the food growers of the nation adding that the genuine demands of the farmers are under the constant consideration of the state government.
He said that the state government has already made 94% of the payment of the cane growers in the state and the remaining payment, if any, will also be made soon. He described the meeting slated to held on Sunday as a step in right direction to end the ongoing agitation of the farmers.
