A clash between farmers and toll employees erupted at Tanda toll plaza near Hoshiarpur district, Punjab. Farmers Union has closed down 18 toll plazas in various districts of the state. The unions have stated that no toll fee will be charged in Punjab for a month as their demands are not being met. The police force was also deployed to keep the situation under control.
As per information, till now farmers have closed 16 toll plazas in Punjab but the situation is tense in Tanda as there was a ruckus at the scene. Reportedly, the toll workers are not happy with the decision of closing down the toll plaza as it will make them jobless. This became the reason for the fight between the toll employees and farmers. As the farmers have started a protest near toll plazas, it has become difficult for people to travel causing a heavy traffic jam. Leaders of the farmers union have announced that if their demands are not met, a nation-wide protest will be carried out by them on 26th December 2022.
The toll plazas closed by farmers include Amritsar: Kathunangal, Mananwala and Attari toll plazas, Pathankot Dinanagar toll plaza, Kapurthala Dhilwan toll plaza, Moga Baghapurana toll plaza, Tarn Taran, USMA, Manan toll plaza, Hoshiarpur, Mukerian, Chillong, Chabbewal, Mansar and Gaddiwala toll plazas, Firozpur, Gidderpindi and Firozshah toll plaza, Jalandhar Chakbahamian toll plaza and Fazilka The Qalandar and Mamojae toll plazas.
