Father of Kapurthala man deported from US breaks down; 'Mortgaged my house, spent Rs 45 lakh to send him..

The father of Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision in Kapurthala, broke down in tears upon hearing of his son's return late at night. He explained how he had taken loans to send his son abroad.

With the onset of the Donald Trump 2.0 era in the US, there has been global upheaval, with illegal immigrants being sent back. Gurpreet Singh from the village of Bahbal Bahadur in Sultanpur Lodhi became one of the first Indians in this list of deportees.  

Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, a U.S. military C-17 aircraft landed at Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Das International Airport, carrying illegal Indian immigrants. This military plane took off from the U.S. at 3 a.m. on February 4, marking the first time the U.S. military has been used to send illegal immigrants back.  

Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Bahbal Bahadur in Sultanpur Lodhi, was returning home after being deported from the USA. His father, Tarsem Singh, was in a state of deep distress upon hearing the news of his son’s deportation.

Daily wage worker Tarsem Singh and his uncle Mahinder Singh revealed that they learned about the deportation through the media. With teary eyes, Mahinder Singh shared that he had spent Rs 45 lakh to send his son abroad just six months ago.  

He further explained that Gurpreet had reached a U.S. base camp just 22 days ago. To send his son abroad, he had mortgaged his house and gathered a large sum by borrowing money from relatives and taking out loans. But now everything is ruined. He now only hopes that the central and Punjab government can help provide his son with employment in Punjab, so he can repay the heavy debt.

Meanwhile, Sultanpur Lodhi Police Station SHO Har Gurdev Singh mentioned that Gurpreet Singh had been safely returned to his home after being deported from the USA.
