A tragic incident has been reported from Kottakuppam village near Puducherry on Thursday, 4 November a man and his 7-year-old son were charred to death after two bags filled with firecrackers they were carrying on the scooter burst into flames. The incident was reported in the Villupuram district on Thursday when the entire country was celebrating Diwali.
The police informed that two other passersby who were in close vicinity to the bike had also suffered serious injuries.
CCTV footage that has captured the incident has gone viral, showing a two-wheeler bursting into flames just when it was taking a corner turn near a police barricade. The explosion has damaged a few vehicles nearby. Moments before the explosion, another two-wheeler can be seen crossing the spot from the opposite direction.
A police officer investigating the accident said, "The boy was seated on two bundles of firecrackers kept tightly tied in the front of the two-wheeler. We believe that friction and pressure led to the explosion. The sudden appearance of the other two-wheelers from the opposite side could have led to a jerk, causing friction.”
