Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Friday, marking the International Women Day said that she takes great pride that her ruling Trinamool Congress has 35% female MPs and reservation of 50% of the seats for women in the state local body.
She also put light on the scheme that her party recently launched for empowerment of the woman. She said, “Our government is committed to the welfare and empowerment of women. Recently we launched the Swasthya Sathi health insurance smart cards…We have decided to issue these cards to a woman member of the family, recognising her as the head of the family."
International Women's Day is celebrated annually, all across the world on March 8.
