Finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman during the presentation of budget 2021 said the current Minimum Support Price (MSP) regime assured a price of at least 1.5 times the cost of their production.
"Our government is committed to welfare of farmers. The MSP regime has undergone a change to assure price that is at least 1.5 times the cost of production across all commodities. The procurement has also continued to increase at a steady pace, this has resulted in increase in payment of farmers, substantially," said Sitharaman during her third budget speech.
FM also added that in case of wheat farmers, the amount paid to them during 2020-21 was Rs 75,875 crore while the amount paid to paddy farmers during 2020-21 was Rs 1,72, 752 crore.
FM added, "Arond 1.68 crore farmers are registered and Rrs 1.14 crore trade value has been carried out through e-NAM.... Keeping in view the transparency and competitiveness of that e-NAM has brought into the agricultural market, thousands more mandis will be integrated into e-NAM."
According to the finance minister, the agriculture
infrastructure funds will be provided to APMCs for augmentation in their
infrastructure.
