To be precise, John Allman's character is partially based on the real-life Don Ritchie. As shown in the trailer, a cop can be seen informing John Allman that he is staying at a place infamous for its suicide point in Cyprus and hence he often spots people near his home.
What happened to real-life John Allman or Don Ritchie?
Don Ritchie died in 2012 at the age of 86. Due to his noble work, Don Ritchie was nicknamed "The Angel of The Gap" because he would intervene when he spotted suicide attempts near his home in Sydney, Australia, which overlooked "The Gap", a notorious ocean side cliff that faces the Tasman Sea. The spot was popular both with tourists, and with people seeking to take their own life.
