A total of 104 Indians who had entered the US through donkey route and were living illegally were deported to Amritsar on Wednesday, 5th February. These deportees were being transported by a US military C-17 aircraft, marking a significant operation in the ongoing enforcement of US immigration policies.
This event highlighted the complexities of global migration and the challenges faced by people seeking better opportunities abroad.
Out of the 104 Indians forcibly sent to India from America, 31 were citizens of Punjab. Based on their complaints, action has now been initiated in Punjab. The first case has been registered in Rajasansi police station of Amritsar district of Punjab. Police have registered a case against agent Satnam Singh son of Tarsem Singh, resident of Kotli Khehra village.
This case has been registered on the complaint of Salempur resident Daler Singh who was deported from America. The police have taken this action in the case of sending Daler Singh to America illegally. Yesterday, Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal also came to meet him.
As per reports, Daler Singh was illegally sent to the U.S. by an agent. Following an investigation, the police have registered an FIR under sections related to human trafficking and fraud against the accused agent, Satnam Singh. Further investigations are underway.
Daler Singh informed that his journey started on 15th August 2024. An agent had assured him that he would take him to America, but that did not happen. Initially he was taken to Dubai and then to Brazil.
The agents first assured them of getting a visa, but later said that a visa was not possible and they would have to take the donkey route. Finally, he was told that he would have to go through the jungles of Panama. He had no other option and he had to say yes.
Daler Singh described the Panama jungle as one of the most dangerous routes in the world. It takes three and a half days to cross the 120 km long jungle. He had to carry our own food and water.
He told that there were around 8 to 10 people in his group, including Nepali citizens and women as well. They had a guide with them. But this journey was so dangerous that there was a risk to life at every step.
After crossing the Panama jungle, they reached Mexico and from there headed towards the Tejana border of America. But on 15th January 2025, they were arrested by American authorities. They hoped that they would reach America safely, but they were cheated.
Daler Singh said that lakhs of rupees were spent in this entire journey. He was cheated by two agents, one from Dubai and one from India.
