In a recent incident during the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election in Punjab, an FIR has been filed against Congress MLA Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia from the Shahkot assembly seat. The complaint against Sherowalia and his supporters was lodged by the driver of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Dalbir Singh Tong, who accused them of stopping Tong's convoy and accusing him of violating the Election Commission's code of conduct.
According to the complaint filed by Tong's driver, Gagandeep Arora, Sherowalia and his supporters stopped Tong's vehicle and took away the keys, forcing them to call the police. The FIR has been registered at the Shahkot police station and includes the names of 12 other people along with Sherowalia.
Reacting to the FIR, Sherowalia accused the government of doing hooliganism in the state and trying to create an atmosphere like UP Bihar in Punjab. He further stated that Congress would fight the government strongly and would not allow Punjab to become UP Bihar.

Sherowalia claimed that on the day of the election, he received information that some outsiders had entered the village and were attempting to capture the booths. When he reached the spot, he found MLA Tong on the way. He informed the police and the SDM that an atmosphere of panic was being created and that it needed to be stopped.
The police arrived at the scene, and Sherowalia and his supporters reportedly took away two vehicles. Sherowalia denied the allegations made by Tong's driver, stating that he had done the right thing during the elections. He alleged that Tong had attempted to commit hooliganism, but the people did not allow it.
