Joy turned to despair for a family in Firozpur, Punjab when a bride suddenly collapsed and died in the middle of wedding ceremony. The bride's blood pressure (BP) dropped during the wedding causing her to collapse on her way to the stage for ‘Anand Karaj’. The procession had to return empty handed as the ‘doli’ turned into a bier.
The matter is of Swahwala village of Gur Har Sahai. Jai Chand's 23-year-old daughter Neelam's was getting married on Monday. Gurpreet, son of Mahendra Kumar Thind, had arrived with a wedding procession from village Rukna Basti to marry his daughter. The family welcomed the wedding procession with much fanfare.
Neelam's mother, informed that before Anand Karaj, her daughter said that she was feeling nervous. Following this she was given water to drink which provided some relief. When the ‘Anand Karaj’ was to take place and Neelam was being escorted to the stage she fainted. Water was sprinkled on Neelam's face, but she did not regain consciousness.
People tried to bring the girl back to consciousness for about 10 minutes. The family immediately called the village doctor who promptly arrived. But sadly she had died before the doctor could do anything, prompting him to declare her dead. The atmosphere was replaced with that of mourning.
