The Lok Sabha Elections voting concluded today. Punjab locals also voted for the suitable candidate in the 7th and last phase of voting. This was the first time that Punjab witnessed four-cornered elections. All the major 4 political parties namely AAP, BJP, Congress and SAD contested for elections without any alliance. Firozpur in one of the most important Lok Sabha seats that all parties are keeping an eye on. During last assembly elections, the voting percentage was 72.29%. This year however the percentage is 65.95_%.
The Lok Sabha seat of Firozpur is being considered as the one that will witness a major face-off. The major candidates who will be contesting elections from this seat are Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar (AAP), Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi (BJP), Sher Singh Ghubaya (Congress), and Nardev Singh Bobby Mann (SAD). The main face-off will be mainly between AAP’s Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar and Congress’s Shar Singh Ghubaya.
Talking about the positive points that could act in favour of both of them in winning the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Sher Singh Ghubaya belongs to the Rai Sikh community and is a popular face of that community. He has twice been the MP and MLA from Firozpur which makes him the popular face of the constituency. Sher Singh Ghubaya was earlier in Shiromani Akali Dal, there are chances that those votes might shift in Congress’s favour. AAP’s Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar is also a popular face in the constituency. What will help him the most is that out of 9 seats in Firozpur, 8 have AAP-sitting MLAs. This can help him to gather a good number of votes. Apart from this, the freebies offered by AAP in Punjab can also act in his favour. Also, he has immense support from his party members. This is after 21 years that BJP has come in elections without any alliance. For the unversed, it was in 1997 that the BJP formed an alliance with SAD and till 2019 they contested elections together. Post 2019, this was the first time that BJP and SAD contested solo in an assembly election.
Firozpur has in total of 1902 polling stations. The constituency consists of 8,73,684 males, 7,83,402 females and 45 transgenders making a total of 1657131 voters.
