The first death from the Delta plus variant of Coronavirus has been reported in Mumbai, said BMC officials. A 63-year-old woman contracted the virus on July 27, was fully vaccinated and succumbed to the disease on July 27. According to officials, she had several comorbidities including diabetes, lung infection and was staying sick before being infected. The deceased didn’t have any travel history.
Besides her, there are seven other patients in the city to have been tested positive for the Delta Plus variant.
Last month, an 80-year-old woman from Ratnagiri died from the Delta Plus strain.

The BMC officials had received the genome sequencing results taken from the woman's samples that had arrived on Wednesday showing her to be infected with the Delta Plus variant which is a highly contagious Covid variant of the virus first detected in India.
Meanwhile, six family members of the deceased also have been infected with the Delta Plus variant of Covid-19, while four members genome sequencing reports are awaiting.
The woman was on oxygen support and was given steroids and Remdesivir.
With these seven samples from Mumbai, there have been 13 more people testing positive for the Delta Plus variant across Maharashtra state. Pune has 3 cases, two each in Nanded, Gondia, Raigad and Palghar, and one each in Chandrapur and Akola. Hereby, the number of patients infected with Delta Plus has increased to 65.

The centre has already declared the Delta Plus variant to be concerning.
