As India battles with the second wave of coronavirus, policemen and medicos are playing a critical role in combating the infection. Considering their significant role in this fight against Covid, two Civil Police Constables decided to postpone their wedding.
Constable Ananthatheertha and Soubhagya, both police constables from Mysuru decided to put off their wedding and help their colleagues in the fight against the raging coronavirus pandemic. Anantha, posted at Hunsur station was to marry Saubhagya, also a constable from Chikkamagaluru posted in Nagamangala Rural Station in Mandya. Both were getting married on May 9.
However, with the spiraling coronavirus cases and state government imposing lockdown, they deferred their wedding indefinitely, setting an example for others.
“We took the right decision and also if we take leave now at this critical juncture, the pressure on other staff would increase. So I thought we should not forget our commitment to society at this crucial time,” told Anantha.
Earlier the families had planned to conduct marriage as a low-key affair in the presence of the limited guest. But, the bride and groom-to-be convinced their families to put off the wedding. They had applied for leave too but were present on duty on the scheduled day.
Anantha’s colleagues say he postponed the wedding because he felt the time was not appropriate. One of his colleagues said, “He convinced his wife-to-be who is also a constable and both of them urged families to delay the wedding.”
Ananthatheertha is usually posted on the check-post, guarding vehicles violating lockdown rules. He tells his colleagues and friends that one can not and should not give importance to personal matters always and work to sever society.
