Students in Delhi's Old Rajender Nagar were left enraged after at least 3 students died due to flooding in the basement of an IAS Coaching Center. The incident took place in the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle. Fire brigade officials received a call about students being stuck in the basement at 7:19 pm on Saturday and five fire engines were dispatched to carry out rescue operations. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also reached the spot. The cause of the flooding in Rai's IAS Study Circle has not been revealed.
DCP Central M Harshavardhan addressed the media on Saturday and said "At 7 pm, we received information that the basement of a USPC coaching institute in Rajender Nagar has been flooded with a possibility of some people trapped. There was waterlogging on the road due to heavy rains this evening. We are investigating the matter that how the entire basement got flooded. It appears that the basement got flooded very fast and some people got trapped inside the basement. Delhi Fire Service and NDRF resued teams are present here. Search and rescue operations are underway... Till now, the dead body of one girl student has been recovered..
... The bodies have been sent to the hospital for further legal action. Rescue operations are still underway. The water is being pumped out. There is still about 7 feet of water in the basement... I request the student community to not come here and hamper the rescue services. We share their pain but coming here to the spot is not the solution. It will hamper the rescue services..."
Two female and one male UPSC aspirant died while a few others were trapped for several hours after water suddenly entered the basement of the coaching centre. Notably, many students present at the spot started chanting 'We want justice' and raised questions on administration that how the coaching institution got clearance when there was a massive loophole.
