Recently, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was questioned for seven hours by the Vigilance Bureau on Friday in connection with a disproportionate assets matter. While coming out of the bureau's Mohali office, Channi labeled the probe as "totally political" and alleged that the government was indulging in "vendetta politics."
Channi claimed that the government was treating him worse than even the Mughals and was trying to use every way to humiliate and defame him. This scathing attack on the state's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has raised questions about the integrity of Channi and his political career.
The former CM was asked more than 50 questions, including the role of his nephew, whose house was raided, and where ₹10 crore was found, which also suspected his involvement in illegal sand mining. The chances are that he would be called again for further questioning.

Channi had earlier broken down in tears, claiming his innocence and asking to be hanged if anyone said that he was indulging in any corrupt practice. However, the allegations of the disproportionate assets and his nephew's involvement in the case have raised questions about his integrity.
Channi had been asked to appear for questioning on April 12, but he requested another date, which the bureau allowed, asking him to appear on April 20. However, the Vigilance Bureau advanced the date to Friday, which raises concerns about the probe being conducted in a fair and unbiased manner.
