Former Punjab Minister & Congress leader Sandhu Singh Dharmsot on Monday was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Sandhu Singh Dharmsot who was out on bail was summoned for questioning by the ED's Jalandhar Unit on Monday. After hours of questioning, ED arrested Dharamsot as the probing agency was reportedly not satisfied by the former Punjab Minister's answer. Dharmsot was called for questioning in a disproportionate assets and forest scam case. After Sandhu Singh Dharmsot's arrest, ED took him for a medical checkup at Civil Hospital. For those who are unaware, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was Punjab's Forest Minister during Captain Amarinder's regime.
Notably, Dharamsot's arrest came months after ED sleuths carried out raids at his residence in Almoh. In November 2023, ED sleuths carried out raids at the houses of some contractors of the Forest Department and their close relatives including the former Punjab Forest Minister Dharmsot. A few teams had also arrived to raid the houses of Harmohinder Singh, a close associate of Dharamsot and a contractor of the forest department, a close associate based in Khanna, and some other officials. Notably, ED had conducted raids after getting some documents from the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
In February 2023, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Sadhu Singh Dharamsot for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Notably during that time, Dharamsot was arrested by VB from Amloh's residence. He was booked under 13(1) (b), 13(2) of prevention of corruption. Even in the year 2022, he was accused of corruption and after spending 89 days in jail, he came out on bail in September 2022.
