AAP leader Raghav Chadha on Tuesday afternoon announced that farmers protesting at Singhu on Delhi-Haryana border protesting against the Centre’s farm laws will be provided with free Wi-Fi adding that the Aam Aadmi Party, which governs Delhi will install Wi-Fi hotspots so that farmers can make video calls and connect with family members back home.
Mr Chadha said the decision has been taken by CM Arvind Kejriwal. "A person needs bread, clothes and a house to live a respectable life... but now the internet has also been added to it. We want the farmers to stay in touch with their family," Mr Chadha said.
Chadha added that few places have been identified and the signal will be within 100 metres of the Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Aam Aadmi Party has been a constant supporter of the farmers and expressed their concern over their issues. Last month, AAP had made arrangements for drinking water, sanitation and medical care at protesting sites, while CM Kejriwal reviewed their conditions.
Chief Minister Kejriwal had also supported the farmers' call for a "Bharat bandh" and kept fast in supporting the same.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan have camped at various border points of Delhi demanding scrapping of the new farm laws amid the winter chills.
Multiple rounds of talks have been held so far to resolve the deadlock between the farmers and the government with farmers rejecting amendment proposals, while a fresh round of talks has been scheduled for Wednesday at 2 pm.
