In a major development, a Mohali Court recently acquitted two gangsters for allegedly threatening Punjabi singer & actor Gippy Grewal in an extortion case. The gangsters who were accused of issuing death threats to Gippy Grewal include Dilpreet Singh Dahan, alias Dilpreet Baba, and Sukhpreet Singh, alias Buddha. The Mohali court granted them the 'benefit of doubt' due to a lack of sufficient evidence. The case dates back to 2018 when Rupinder Singh, better known as Gippy Grewal, a popular Punjabi singer, and actor, alleged that he received extortion calls from Dilpreet Baba, demanding Rs 10 lakh as protection money.

As per reports, Grewal in his complaint stated that he received a threat on WhatsApp from gangster Dilpreet Baba saying the Punjabi singer would meet the same fate as slain singer Amar Singh Chamkila. After hearing the arguments of the government and the defense, the court of Judicial Magistrate Savita Das has ordered the acquittal of Dilpreet Baba and Sukhpreet Budha. Mohali police failed to bring the record of voice messages and chats in the court. Due to this, the allegations of demanding ransom against both the gangsters could not be proved.

What did Gippy Grewal allege in his complaint?

As per reports, Punjabi singer Rupinder Singh alias Gippy Grewal, a resident of Sector-69, had complained to the police that on May 31, 2018, at 4 pm, he received a WhatsApp message from gangster Dilpreet Baba on his mobile. Many types of threats were given in it. It was said in the threat that if he did not obey, he would have to face the consequences like Parmish Verma and Chamkila.

The threat message further stated that if he (Gippy) does not have information about Baba, then he should get information on Facebook and contact him directly. On Gippy's complaint, the police had registered a case against gangster Dilpreet Baba on June 1, 2018.
