Germany has bolstered its position as a leading destination for Indian students pursuing higher education, with admissions reaching 50,000 during the 2023-24 academic year.
In recent years, Germany has become a top destination for Indian students to study. Germany has witnessed a higher number of Foreign students especially from India. According to the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), the German Academic Exchange Service, there has been an increment of 15.1 percent in Indian students compared to the winter semester of 2023-2024, Germany hosted 49,483 Indian students.
The trend has been driven by many factors, which include affordable tuition fees, high-quality education, and career opportunities. As of 2023, the number of Indian students enrolling in the universities of Germany has increased to 26%.
Germany offers a plethora of scholarships specifically aimed at International students, including those From India. Organisations such as DAAD provide financial aid to help cover living expenses and tuition fees. These scholarship reduces the financial pressure and allow the student to focus on their studies.
One more justifiable reason for Indian students to choose Germany is the reasonable fees for courses. Public Universities in Germany do not charge tuition fees for international students. This notably reduces the financial burden compared to countries like the United States or the United Kingdom where tuition exceeds $30,000 per year. Germany's multicultural environment also creates a welcoming atmosphere for the students.
Germany has also allowed International students to work part-time while studying; they can work up to 120 full days or 240 half days without needing a work permit, and this helps the students financially.
The country has three Visa policies which include a Student Visa, a Language Course Visa, and a preparation course Visa. Unlike other countries, Germany also provides post-study work opportunities, which duration is 18 months. It allows the graduates to seek employment in Germany which significantly enhances their career prospects and provides valuable international experience. Many German universities have tie-ups with Giant Industries, offering students internships and job placements.
The anticipated growth of Indian student enrollment in Germany is expected to reach a staggering 298% by 2030, which underlines the significance of opportunities it provides to future generations.
