The first Aghan cargo was flagged off to India by the Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani through Chabahar port on Sunday in what is being called an important economic route for India to trade with Afghanistan.
The consignment was flagged off from western Nimroz province and consisted of 23 trucks carrying 570 of goods.
The Chabahar port was inaugurated in 2017 and gives India a passage through Iran to trade with Afghanistan in an alternative route. The agreement signed between India, Iran and Afghanistan provides operational control of Shahid Behesti port of Chabahar to India.
India has also jointly built a 900 km long Chabahar-Zahedan-Hajigak railway line with Iran providing a direct path from Chabahar port to the Hajigak region of Afghanistan.
2017 was the first time ever when India sent a wheat consignment through Chabahar port.
