Meghalaya Governor Satpal Malik has strongly commented on the leaders 'stance on the farmers' agitation that has been going on for 110 days. Speaking to the media in Jhunjhunu on Tuesday, he said, the farmers’ protest is not in anyone’s interest. Our leaders express condolence for dying dogs, but 250 farmers died during the agitation but nobody even said a word.
Malik further said, “I believe that the peasant movement will be resolved soon. MSP is the issue and once it is made legal, the farmers’ issue will be resolved.”
Malik said that the farmers’ movement should not last long and should be resolved through negotiation.

On being questioned if he is being an intermediary between the government and the farmers, Malik said he is in a constitutional position, he cannot do that. Farmers are clear on the agriculture laws.
Meghalaya governor has been vocal in supporting the farmers. He had earlier urged the government to provide a legal guarantee of MSP and also claimed that he had stopped the arrest of Rakesh Tikait. He had also said that if the centre gives a legal guarantee for MSP on crops, then it will bring relief to the farmers. Malik has appealed to the prime minister and home minister to not insult the farmers and make them go empty-handed from Delhi.
