Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has roped in the home department and department of animal husbandry and veterinary services (AHVS) on Monday to form a list of ban certain breeds of dogs that are aggressive and attack humans.

 

CM Sawant also mentioned that it is movement to protect residents and visitors from potential harm. "We will soon be introducing a list of dangerous dogs that will be banned”, says Goa CM.

 

Goa is home to an estimated 1.5 million dogs, of which about 70,000 are strays.

 

Before Goa, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for ensuring public safety considers banning on six 'ferocious' breeds of dogs namely, American Bull Dog, American Pit Bull, Bull Terrier, Cane Corso, Dogo Argentino and Rottweiler.

 

CM Sawant cited the Goa government is also considering ban on the adoption of certain dog breeds by giving an example of a recent incident in which a Rottweiler jumped over the door of a house and attacked two children.

 

Sawant further extended that the general people of Goa are facing huge problems due to increasing population of dogs, and on an average of one to two road accidents resulting in serious injuries like head fracture are because of them.

 

According to reports, the Government of India has banned the importation of dogs for breeding or any other commercial activities in 2016. Only breed dogs with suitable pet skins are allowed to be imported with the imposter’s name and relevant documents in the 19th century.
