Goa Revolution day, also called Kranti Din is observed today on June 18 every year. The day is observed to recall the sacrifices of freedom fighters and Martyrs of Goa’s liberation struggle.
Today, the high schools and higher senior secondary schools in Goa are celebrating the 75th year of Goa’s Revolution Day. The celebration will be conducted with appropriate covid protocols as the battle against the coronavirus pandemic continues in India.
Along with Goa Revolution Day 2021, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has also told institutions to mark the 60th year of Goa Liberation Day on December 19, 2021.
Significance
On this day, people salute the sacrifice and valor of freedom fighters and give tribute to them. It is one of the great days for the people of Goa who have stayed through thick and thin.

History
On this day in 1946, the suppressed patriotic feelings of Goans had manifested into a mass revolution. People of Goa under the leadership of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia stood united against the oppressive system of colonial rule in Goa and fought for civil liberties.
Ones responsible for Goa Revolution
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr. Juliao Menezes began the civil disobedience movement against Salazar’s dictatorial regime. These two men were responsible for the beginning of the revolution due to which Goa got its civil liberties.
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia
He was born on March 23, 1910, in Akbarpur now known as Uttar Pradesh in North India. He was born into a prosperous Vaishya family and was raised by his father after his mother passed away when he was 2 years old.
Dr. Juliao Menezes
He studied in Goa and went to Berlin to graduate in Medicine in the 1920s. In Berlin, he met Dr. Lohia who was then the secretary of the Union. The friendship of Lohia and Menezes played a great role in the history of Goa.
Meanwhile, India will be celebrating its 75th independence day on August 15. The government has already planned a programme titled ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
