Team India allrounder & Mumbai Indians' newly appointed skipper Hardik Pandya continues to face the heat of fans on social media. Hardik Pandya's comeback with the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad did not go well in Ahmedabad as angry Gujarat Titans fans brutally mocked him. For the unversed, Hardik Pandya left the Gujarat Titans team and rejoined the Mumbai Indians in the biggest trade of IPL history. Hardik was the captain of GT and even led the team to victory in 2022. Not only this, Pandya led GT into the IPL 2023 finals but lost to CSK. While there are multiple videos doing rounds on social media, a new video has surfaced in which Hardik Pandya was labeled a gold-digger by angry GT fans.
In the viral video, Hardik Pandya can be seen returning to the pavilion after the end of the MIvsGT match. When Hardik was on his way back, the fans sitting across the fence started screaming gold-digger. On Monday, another similar video went viral on social media in which Hardik was called 'Chapri', a derogatory term. Also, Hardik was continuously booed by fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Why fans are angry with Hardik Pandya?
There are three reasons for fans' anger. Gujarat Titans fans are angry at Hardik Pandya as he left the team and rejoined Mumbai Indians (MI). The Mumbai Indians (MI) fans are angry at Hardik for taking the captaincy role in the team when Rohit Sharma is already in the squad. The third reason is Hardik Pandya had to pull out from ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to a 'freak injury'.
Coming back to the GTvMI match, the Shubman Gill-led team sealed the victory in a final-over thriller. GT defeated MI by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Sai Sudharsan was adjudged as the player of the match for his 45 runs innings.
After winning his first outing as GT skipper, Shubman Gill during the post-match presentation said, "The way the boys held their nerves with dew coming in, it was outstanding. The way our spinners bowled made sure we are always in the game. It's all about holding your nerves. He (Sai Sudharsan) has been a revelation for us. We just wanted to build on the pressure and wait for them to make mistakes. The crowd is one thing, have always come whether it is a day game or a night game and shout out to all the fans who have come here to support us. I thought that was a good score, but we left at least 15 runs there, it was hard to hit those short balls as the wicket got a bit slow towards the end."
