Google has issued a warning for Gmail account users. Google has confirmed that Gmail accounts of around 250 crore users can get hacked through AI as cyber criminals are now committing fraud by pretending to be Google support. Google has warned users not to trust any such fake calls and change the password of their Gmail account immediately.
As per a report released by Forbes, Google has warned millions of Gmail users that cyber criminals are pretending to be Google support agents. The caller ID of these calls looks real, due to which users can get deceived.
In this scam, hackers pretend to be Google support agents and tell users that their account has been hacked and they should use the recovery code sent to recover the account. The email and recovery code sent by the hackers seems real, which can deceive users.
How to protect Gmail account?
If users receive any such email or call, they are advised to ignore it. However, if users have tried to recover their account using the recovery code sent by hackers, then they should change the password of their Gmail account immediately.
Also, users are advised to always secure their Gmail account with two-factor authentication (2FA) to add another layer of security to their account.
Cybercriminals are constantly bringing such tricks to gain access to users' email accounts, and this method is effective because it does not require them to go through any security system.
If user want to reset Gmail password, first the user should go to the settings. Next, go to Google and tap their names and then on the option Manage Google Account.
Following this, tap Security option at the top. Then go to the how to sign in to Google Account section and tap Password. Here the user may be asked to sign in to account. Next, enter new password and tap Change Password. If the user doesn’t remember Gmail password, then tap the option Forgot my password. Then follow the instructions given on the screen and answer the security questions correctly. After this the user can change their password.
