The Supreme Court of India on Friday stepped into the ongoing hunger strike of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal is observing fast until death at the Khanauri border of Punjab-Haryana so that the Centre accepts 13 demands of the farmers. Friday marked the 18th day of Dallewal's hunger strike.
The Supreme Court has issued strict orders regarding Dallewal. The Supreme Court told the Punjab and Central Government that he should be given immediate medical help. He should not be forced to eat. The Supreme Court said that Dallewal's life is more important than the movement.
The Supreme Court also said that the farmers should maintain peace and no force should be used on Dallewal. The Supreme Court gave these orders during the hearing of the ongoing case regarding the opening of Shambhu border. During this, the committee constituted by the Supreme Court also submitted an interim report. The next hearing of the case will be on December 17.
A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan passed the direction on Friday. "During course of hearing it was apprised that health condition of Mr. Dallewal is worsening since he is on fast unto death. it is the bounden duty of State of Punjab and Union to take all peaceful measures to grant medical aid to Mr. Dallewal and not force him to eat unless it is imperative to save him," the judges said as quoted by Bar and Bench.
"Please have a direct dialogue since life of Mr. Dallewal is precious than any agitation. A person who is providing them leadership and statesmanship must be protected. Please take the steps immediately. Director general of State of Punjab along with a representative of Union of India so that Mr. Dallewal and others can be convinced that first priority is to persuade and provide emergent medical aid to Mr. Dallewal," the Court added.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been kept under tight security by farmers at Khanauri border. A strict vigil is being kept to ensure that no person can reach him directly.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dallewal's health has been continuously deteriorating. Dallewal is also a cancer patient. On Thursday, a team of cancer specialists and government doctors from America examined him. After which it was said that his condition remains critical.
He has lost about 12 kg of weight. There is a risk of kidney damage. He can also have a heart attack. Apart from this, he can also have problems with his liver. His blood pressure and sugar are continuously decreasing.
