In a shocking and sad development, at least 36 people lost their lives and more than 85 were injured in a horrific train collision in Greece. On Wednesday morning, a passenger train and an oncoming freight train collided in a fiery wreck in northern Greece. To be precise, an intercity passenger train travelling from Athens to the northern city of Thessaloniki collided at high speed with a cargo train outside the city of Larissa in central Greece, said the governor of the Thessaly region as reported by the Greek media. The impact caused a fire in a number of the passenger carriages, burning many commuters who were rushed to hospitals. Seeing the initial footages and videos, it can be said that multiple cars derailed and at least three burst into flame after the collision near Tempe, some 380 kilometers (235 miles) north of Athens. Hospital officials in the nearby city of Larissa said at least 85 people had serious injuries.
Passengers who received minor injuries or were unharmed were transported by bus to Thessaloniki, 130 kilometers (80 miles) north of the incident. Police took their names as they arrived in an effort to track anyone who may be missing. A teenage survivor who did not give his name told Greek reporters as he got off one of the buses that just before the crash, he felt a strong braking and saw sparks and then there was a sudden stop. Now, there are multiple Greece train collision videos are doing rounds on social media.
