Vadodara: People of Vadodara breathed a sigh of relief as the rain stopped and the water started receding, bringing some relief to the residents. State Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced that cash-dole would be given to those who were evacuated during the rescue operations. He also announced compensation of rupees four lakh to the kin of those who died in rain-related incidents.
Mr. Rupani also announced that the electricity supply in most of the areas in the city would be resumed by Friday afternoon.
He also said that issues related to drinking water would also be resolved in flood-hit areas. "The situation is getting back to normal quickly due to a decrease in the level of river Vishwamitri and Ajwa dam. Efforts are on to resume water and electric supply. All the feeders would be started by 12 pm on Friday," Mr. Rupani told reporters in Rajkot on Friday morning.
"The family members of those four people who died when a wall collapsed in Chhani area of the city (Vadodara) due to heavy rain would be given financial assistance of Rs four lakh each," he added.
Notably, according to official figures, a total of four deaths have been reported while the unofficial figures put it to a higher number around nine.

Meanwhile, due to the decrease in the water level of the river Vishwamitri that flows amid the city and also the Ajwa dam, water has receded from various areas in the city even though many of the low-lying areas were still flooded.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Army, Air Force, police and fire brigade teams were deployed to carry out rescue operations in the city that was flooded due to around 500 mm of rain in just a day on July 31. Over 5000 people have been rescued from low lying areas so far.
The NDRF teams are still active and have rescued many patients of a flooded private hospital in the city and other areas.
Meanwhile, the difficulties of people getting items of daily use was still there. Several people were complaining of not getting even milk. Some claimed that they were buying it at a higher than the normal price. Some people even claimed they bought milk at Rs 300 a liter.
