In a fierce encounter in Amritsar’s Bhinder village near Beas, Punjab Police shot and killed a gangster linked to Lakhbir Landa’s network, while his accomplice managed to escape. The slain gangster has been identified as Gursher Singh, a resident of Harike village, who belonged to the gang of Landa, a foreign-based operative involved in terror activities in India.
The shootout is linked to the murder case of Gurdev Singh, also known as Gokha Sarpanch, who was killed in Sathiala village on October 23, 2024, within the Beas police jurisdiction.
The police brought the two suspects, Gursher Singh and his associate Paras, to the scene to recover weapons. However, the gangsters attempted to flee, pushing back the officers and retrieving hidden weapons from nearby bushes. They opened fire on the police, leading to a defensive exchange. Gursher Singh was fatally wounded, while Paras escaped by jumping into the river near the Mand area under heavy gunfire.
Three suspects, including Gursher, Paras, and another associate, Parveen Singh, were earlier arrested in connection with Gokha Sarpanch’s murder based on intelligence reports and brought from Manali for questioning.
Police recovered a Glock pistol and live rounds at the site of the encounter. Both suspects are linked to the gang of Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa Harike, who has been designated a terrorist for his involvement in murder, extortion, and grenade attacks, including an assault on the Sarhali police station.
Authorities have intensified search operations to capture the fugitive and crack down on criminal networks associated with terror activities in Punjab.
