This year, the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji is celebrated on June 14. The day is celebrated as Shaheed Diwas or Chabeel Day. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the fifth guru of Sikh after his grandfather Guru Amardas Ji and father Guru Ramdas Ji. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was born in the year 1563 in Goindval, Tarn Taran district. He was died after being tortured by Mughals.
Facts
In 1606, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was captured by Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Jahangir imprisoned Guru Arjan in Lahore Fort because of the increasing number of Sikhs due to his influence among people. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was tortured by the Mughal Emperor, he was forced to sit on a burning sheet and hot sand was poured on him. He was allowed to take bath after five days of torture. He was never seen again after he took bath.
Jahangir used to force the guru to convert his religion to Islam but the guru refused and it is assumed he was executed in the year 1606.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji laid the foundation stone of the Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple). The map of the temple was prepared under the guidance of the Guru. He developed four doors at the Golden Temple, which signify the acceptance of all four castes and religions.
Masands system was the brainchild of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, under which he urged Sikhs to donate one-tenth of their income for the charity.
Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the author of the well-known Sukhmani Sahib Bani or ‘prayer for peace’. He had also contributed more than 2,000 hymns to the Adi Shri Guru Granth Sahib, which is the largest collection of hymns.

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh paid homage to Guru Arjan Dev Ji on his 415th Martyrdom Day. Punjab CM tweeted (in Punjabi), “On the occasion of the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the founder of the tradition of martyrdom in Sikhism, who obeyed every wish of Akal Purakh by saying “Tera Kiya Mitha Lagai”, I salute him.”
